Kings Croft - At present, Sandstone have appealed to the Government Inspectorate against their last planning application.
We are preparing our representation for this appeal, and the current advice we have is very, very encouraging.
However, we have been reliably informed that Sandstone are ‘in talks’ with the planning dept regarding a 3rd application. Why? - well it may be that the appeals process could take some considerable time and possibly a new application to be decided locally may be a quicker route to gaining outline planning permission. So get ready for round 3 !
We owe a huge thanks to members who work daily on all development situations in Allestree and it demonstrates their commitment to our suburbs.
Friends of Allestree Park - The APG wholeheartedly support them and are equally concerned about the possible changes in the overseeing of the park. Any rolling programme of staff across all city parks appears to be a short-sighted cost cutting exercise.
it looks as if the recent political changes due to the local elections will have an impact on this decision.

Tree Preservation Orders (TPO’s) - Trees and maintenance go
together. Permission has to be obtained for such work to be carried
out. Obviously the arboriculturist undertaking the work must comply
with the terms of the permission. If they don’t, substantial fines can
be imposed. Any concerns you have should be dealt with immediately -
contact the planning officer assigned (if you know of one), or the
environmental team at DCC, inform APG or one of our local councillors.
If you receive formal notification of TPO tree maintenance/felling, let
your neighbours know, and check out the detail of the planned actions.
Future developments - We have been informed about 2 possible
applications. We can only relate what we have been told and as planning
laws are not required to inform the whole of an area, but only those
residents within a limited distance from the site, we will pass on our
current news.
- Siddals Lane - within the conservation area - building on an orchard ?
- Allestree Lane - a developer buying/owning a number of properties - potential for a large development.
We are not here to encourage rumour, we are passing on information
received - we would rather be wrong rather than not let you know about
information reliably obtained.
Please keep us informed of any issues you are aware of.
Chaddesden , Mickleover, Littleover, Chellaston, Alvaston -
there are many groups similar to ours, looking out for their
communities. If you know of any representatives from these suburbs,
please contact us.
We hope to hold a joint meeting and present all our views and concerns. A problem shared is a problem halved.
APG Committee changes - Carol and Patrick Smith have decided to
retire from their positions of joint chair. However, their commitment
to the APG is as great as ever. Everyone thanks them for their very
able and professional approach to the planning issues.
Rod Straw is our new chairman. He spoke for us on
Radio Derby about garden grabbing - and considering the short notice
Rod was excellent. Graham Reading has agreed to be vice-chairman.
Finance - your annual subscriptions were vital last year -
newsletters, phone calls, paper, ink-jet cartridges etc appear to need
a second mortgage - without this support we wouldn’t be successful -
thank you.
Our thanks must go to Carmel Mason for all her hard work as treasurer.
