Allestree Conservation Area Extension - Look at your deeds!

E-mail Print PDF

APG have compiled an initial report for submission to the Neighbourhood Forum on 22nd April 2009. This is for funding to support the residents in their desire to see the existing Conservation Area extended. It is a summary of the ongoing research being undertaken on behalf of the Allestree Preservation Group. After discussion with Harry Hopkinson, DCC Conservation Officer, we were encouraged to pursue this as the extension in principle met with his approval.

Even in the 1920's, the potential damage associated with indiscriminate development was being voiced, and today we need to show a determined effort to continue the efforts made then to enhance and preserve our suburb, in order to leave a legacy for future generations to be equally proud of.

We need residents to help us with the ongoing conservation research by looking at their deeds, particularly if their house was originally part of the Gisborne estate and built in the 1920s/30s.
We need to know :-
  • Who purchased the land and the date.
  • Who it was purchased from.
  • The architect if known and the name of the builder - and date when built.
  • Any other points of interest from the deeds - e.g. restrictive covenants.
