"A government housing programme has proved more successful at
demolishing properties than building new ones, according to a new
report."
The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee criticises the Pathfinder scheme which was launched in 2002 to regenerate areas of decline.
"It does not help where demolition plans threaten the distinctive historical character of neighbourhoods" says Edward Leigh, and added "that the Department for Communities and Local Government must work to foster confidence among local residents, especially where the programme has led to community stress".
The APG view is that, if community stress is recognised in the areas covered by this programme - how does our LPA think our stress levels are tested in a community that is well loved and cared for, but is constantly under threat of having it's distinctive character taken away by demolition programmes instigated by inappropriate development proposals ?
